ChiME Childhood Music Education
Music Lessons for Kids
Beginning at WollCon in the early 70’s our early childhood music program, now known as ChiME, is the longest running program providing music lessons for kids in Australia.
WollCon’s music lessons for kids are designed for children aged 1-8years, providing children with the opportunity to explore music through singing, playing, moving, listening and creating. ChiME is based on the latest research into child development and early childhood education, recognising the importance of a child’s “play-full” exposure to quality music experiences.

What is music? Why does it sound like that? How does music work?
We help our Junior age Musicians develop their understanding of music, by exploring the music concepts:
Tempo (beat and rhythm), Dynamics (volume), Timbre (how sound is made), Pitch (high and low), Style (from pop to folk, multi-cultural to classical)
We create and play our own music, moving and grooving with our friends, using our growing skills and knowledge.

Application information
To apply for classes, please use our online application form and nominate your three preferred days.
Please apply for the level you think is most suitable for your child, we will use their date of birth and other information you have supplied to confirm the most appropriate level.
Child minding for siblings
An adult must attend with your child throughout the ChiME program. Siblings cannot attend classes but a free on-site child-minding service is offered (subject to limited numbers) for siblings of children in a ChiME class.
Music lessons for kids of an early age provides them with a creative opportunity to discover, express and share who they are. We use our whole self when making music – as your child explores and develops their brain and imagination as well as developing their physical abilities through playing, moving and singing.
During each ChiME lesson you and your child join other parents/carers and their children on a path of music exploration that will help develop your child’s social skills and self-confidence, as well as their sense of belonging and well-being.
With parent/carer participation, and no more than ten children per class, each child experiences the positive world of music in a fun, relaxed, supportive and stimulating environment.
The ChiME program culminates in a Transition year where students try over 15 different instruments, including speech, drama and singing, helping them choose an instrument or focus to which they are most suited.
Watch your child thrive as they rise to each new challenge and help them develop a lifelong love of music.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the ChiME Program. The teachers are enthusiastic and so engaging. It is a wonderful introduction to music, and also allows other positives such as spending time with your child and making new friends. The Transition program is particularly unique and beneficial. Where else would a child be able to learn about and try a wide range of instruments prior to deciding what they love?”

To me, Janet Andrews is the Mary Poppins of music. She is so passionate about music education, and she has such a magic with the children.
