Youth Choirs

Who doesn’t love to sing? Singing is one of the most accessible and joyful ways in which we can make music together.

Our Youth Choirs cover everything from contemporary to classical ensemble singing. Participants learn to sing in harmony, whatever the genre and to take part in performances throughout the year. Covid has resulted in a huge reduction in singing activity so we’d encourage all young singers to rekindle their love of singing by joining one of our Youth Choirs at WollCon.

Our Children’s Choir for younger aged children is the latest addition to our family of Choirs. Led by Kate Whitworth members of our new Children’s Choir will enjoy exploring different styles of singing and repertoire – in harmony of course!

Participants will experience a fun, engaging and uplifting environment as they explore a broad repertoire of original and known songs, suited to the vocal range of the students.

The choir will perform locally throughout the year, and this will include WollCon’s 50th Anniversary festival performance on 10-11 September 2022.

  • improving their vocal awareness and technique;
  • building confidence when reading vocal charts;
  • improving their pitch and confidence, and
  • stretching their musicality across a number of styles.

The Melodettes is for 12-16 year olds who would like to sing with others in 2 part harmony, performing at public concerts and recording projects. Music is provided, along with access to practice tracks.

CYC is for students in years 9-12 who are interested in smaller group 3 part singing. This group is a natural extension of the Melodettes program and provides more challenging materials across a range of contemporary styles.

Vocal awareness, technique, tonal colour, phrasing, blending, sight-singing, and stage presence are all addressed within a fun and focused atmosphere.

Public performances within the group setting allow the students to build confidence and stagecraft.

This is an un-auditioned group, but a trial lesson is recommended.

“I love the ‘aha’ moments that students get when they realise what it feels like to work with the voice rather than against it – the world of expression that opens up for them.”
