Welcome to Wollongong Conservatorium
Positive Change Through Music

WollCon Megaband

The WollCon Megaband is a massive band of more than 150 instrumentalists ranging in age from 9 to 18 years with different levels of experience.

Musicians spend a day “jamming” together, learning some new music, and then present a concert in the evening with a special guest musician. In the past the Megaband has performed with Fred Wesley, Mucho Mambo and James Morrison.

WollCon Megaband is a great opportunity for young musicians to share the stage with a world-class artist, as well as other young musicians from all around the Illawarra.

Eligibility

Musicians must be 9 to 18 years of age, be able to read standard music notation at a basic level and play one of the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, violin, bass guitar or percussion.

Please note that places are strictly limited for keyboard, piano and guitar players.

Music

There will be specially written parts that are easy for beginner level musicians as well as challenging parts for more advanced players. Music will be handed out on the day. There will be plenty of advanced musicians on hand to help with any parts that are too difficult for less experienced musicians. It will be a massive jam session where musicians of all levels and abilities can come together and make music.

If you can get through the first ten pages of a beginning band method book such as Essential Elements, you’ll be fine. Come have a go!
