Combined Youth & Adult Ensembles

These groups welcome young people and adults to learn and perform together. Between them these ensembles cover Jazz, a classical orchestra music and world and street music with the Con Artists.

Expect the unexpected in terms of making music and giving performances. Often musicians who are alumni of WollCon come to join performances so you might find yourself performing alongside a professional player.

The Wollongong Conservatorium’s all ages community band combines young up and coming Con students, adult community musicians, and some of the regions most prominent folk musicians, playing dissident and celebratory folk music from around the world. Fun and irreverent, The Con Artists are a carnival of percussion, wind, brass, accordions and fiddles.

Guitar Ensemble is a wonderful supplement to private guitar lessons and is encouraged for all students. The size of the ensemble can vary from year to year, but is usually a group of about 8 to 12 guitarists of mixed ages (mostly high school aged) and abilities, providing students with the opportunity to learn to read music and understand the tools a guitarist needs to be able to play a variety of styles.

Rehearsing as a group, the students will feel supported and encouraged and will develop a positive outlook on their guitar playing ability.

Guitar Ensemble performs regularly throughout the year at WollCon Performance Days, community events and Eisteddfods.

“The Con Artists Community Band is a huge rambling, all-ages, all-instruments chaotic mess of an ensemble. It has brought together so many wonderful community-minded people, and has been responsible for numerous memorable events, spin-off ensembles and even an annual Street Music Festival.”
