Callum Burns

Guitar | Bass Guitar

What do you teach at the Con?

Guitar and bass.

What genres do you teach?

Jazz and contemporary (all kinds of “modern” guitar playing pop/funk/reggae/rock/blues/metal etc.)

What is it that you love about teaching music – particularly at Wollongong Conservatorium?

The beautiful location and genuinely talented and passionate staff. I studied theory and jazz at the Con in high school so I know what a formative experience it can be for young musicians.

Please share a particular career highlight and why it’s special to you.

Any time I’ve had the chance to perform jazz with colleagues and students in the same band. It’s awesome to have students and teachers come together to improvise for an audience.

What’s one piece of music that you’d recommend people listen to?

Michael Brecker – Nothing Personal (live at Wiesen Jazz Festival).
