Positive Change Through Music

Musical
Activities

Discover and nurture your love of music at WollCon. We welcome people of all ages, from infants to older adults, to learn, play together, perform and experience the joy of making music.

For 50 years, WollCon has been changing people’s lives through music. Thousands of musicians, of all ages and backgrounds, engage in lessons, therapy, ensembles, concerts and events throughout the year at WollCon. You can be part of WollCon’s musical community, regardless of musical ability or interest.

“I love to see the development of students over time. Their growing skills and interest in music … but most of all, I love the idea of fostering a lifelong love of music. Be it as a performer or listener.”

Nigel Edwards

Head of Woodwind

We believe in the power of music to bring about positive change for individuals as well as for whole communities.

At WollCon we welcome people of all ages, from infants to older adults to learn, play together, perform and experience the joy of making music. We offer individual tuition on musical instruments for people of all ages and abilities, group activities for the very young who are just beginning their musical journey to community ensembles and choirs as well as Youth Orchestras and Bands. We are proud to offer Music Therapy to enrich lives. We animate Wollongong with concerts throughout the year. Our taste in music is broad, from Classical to Jazz, World to Contemporary so you can participate at WollCon, whatever your musical interests.

Individual Music Lessons

WollCon provides access to the finest music lessons in the region and the opportunity to be taught by leading musicians and teachers over a vast range of instrumental and vocal fields. We have wonderful facilities in inspiring surroundings, and we nurture an array of musical interests among our huge community of students, participants, and clients.

Small Group Lessons

Sometimes it’s just best to learn with other people. For beginners it can really help with confidence and in some genres of music, such as jazz, interaction with other musicians is at the very heart of learning.

ChiME Childhood Music Education

Beginning at WollCon in the early 70’s our early childhood music program, now known as ChiME, is the longest running children’s music education program in Australia.
An exploration of music through singing, playing, moving, listening and creating, ChiME is based on the latest research into child development and early childhood education, recognising the importance of a child’s “play-full” exposure to quality music experiences.

Music Theory & Composition

Music Theory classes are a vital part of any musical education and provide substantial background knowledge needed to understand how music is constructed. With practical methods that take students beyond short-term rote-learning, WollCon offers a comprehensive theory program that provides students with the skills needed for deeper understanding, leading to excellence in musical interpretation.

Ensembles

WollCon has an ensemble for everyone. By joining one of our many ensembles you can become part of a community of musicians and singers of all ages and abilities with a shared love of making music. Most ensembles are un-auditioned, are highly social and explore an incredible range of musical genres.

Music Therapy

WollCon is proud to provide Music Therapy as part of its music program. We are an NDIS registered provider of music therapy with qualified therapists on staff who can offer individually tailored programs linked to an NDIS plan.

In School Programs

Our In School programs help us reach a wide network of students across the Illawarra, providing high quality music education, participation, and performance opportunities.
