ALLY is global jazz at its most passionate and irresistible, a convergence of riches at every performance, with music drawn from Afro-Peruvian, Cuban and Caribbean traditional rhythms paired with a modern jazz aesthetic. The group encapsulates a cross-pollination of cultures, ideas, and sounds between South American and Australian musicians.

Hear Giorgio Rojas’ Peruvian experimentalism alongside Daniel Pliner’s tumbaos; James Greening’s brilliance on trombone and Gai Bryant’s densely layered Cuban and Peruvian-influenced jazz cameos underpinned by Juan Carlos Allende’s mastery of Cuban percussion. Layered on top is the stunning imagery of Dai Moret’s poetry.

The resulting alchemy of these elements and people is an exhilarating new South American twist on the music of Thelonious Monk combined with scintillating originals from band leader and saxophonist Gai Bryant.

“The brainchild of saxophonist Gai Bryant, ALLY never quite lets your expectations settle… every note is an event in itself…”
