Music Therapy

What do you teach at the Con?

Music Therapy. I work with people across the lifespan using music to engage and work on different goals. Beyond the work I do within the context of a session, as a community focused music therapist my goal is to empower my participants and their parents/carers (if applicable) with skills to utilize music for their own needs.

What genres do you teach?

Though I come from a Improvised/Rock/Experimental background, as a Music Therapist I utilize any different styles of music in my practice.

Please share a particular career highlight and why it’s special to you.

It’s not a specific highlight, however thus far in my career a very special thing has been the oppurtunity to witness the transformative power that music can have on both participants and myself. In a world where music is often disposable and in the background, engaging with music within Music Therapy pushes me to be 100% mindful of the music around me, I thing I am grateful for every day at work.

What’s one piece of music that you’d recommend people listen to?

I was lucky enough to see The Bad Plus at WollCon in 2015. This is one of my favourite compositions of theirs.
