Music Therapy

What do you teach at the Con?

Music Therapy. I support Children through to Adults who are Neuro-diverse in areas of disability, mental health and aged care. I help people to reach their developmental goals as they strive to improve their health/function and well-being using a variety of instruments to engage and learn new skills!

What is it that you love about teaching music – particularly at Wollongong Conservatorium?

It’s a lovely place to work, the grounds are stunning and I enjoy working with the diverse range of client’s. I most enjoy therapeutic musical jamming with client’s and supporting client’s to build confidence and express themselves through song-writing and recording.

Please share a particular career highlight and why it’s special to you.

It’s too hard to name a single one! One highlight recently has been teaching a young client how to play three parts of the drum-kit to play a basic beat along to his favourite band. He’s now started writing his own songs.

What’s one piece of music that you’d recommend people listen to?

Sir Duke – Stevie Wonder.
