While we make music every day at WollCon, for June 21st we celebrated ‘Make Music Day’ with a joyous concert of song.
Held annually on 21 June, Make Music Day is a daylong, world-wide celebration of music in all its forms, and encourages people (both amateur and professional players) to band together and play in free public concerts.
Presented in Australia by the Australian Music Association and the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation, Make Music Day performances can take place anywhere, including churches, community centres, libraries, shopping centres and outdoor spaces.
WollCon’s Head of Voice along with Choir managers Kate Whitworth and Hayden Barrington joined forces with their vocal ensembles to bring audiences a choir concert like never before.
“As the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald said, “The only thing better than singing is more singing”! We are set to raise the roof on the St Francis Xavier Cathedral , so join us in celebrating Make Music Australia Day through song.”
Performers included WollCon Children’s Choir & Youth Choir, the Chamber Choir, The Conchords community choir and our feature artists – WollCon’s close harmony vocal ensemble, The Hummingbirds.
OTHER LOCAL LIVE EVENTS
Musicians from our community ensembles also celebrated Make Music Day from 5-8pm at the Wollongong Townhall forecourt. Audiences enjoyed the sounds of the Combined Schools Band, the Minor Swing Band, the Curious Rendition Orchestra Wollongong and The Con Artists!
The event was FREE and supported WollCon’s vision of ‘Positive Change Through Music’.
