What do you teach at the Con?
Electric Bass Guitar and Double Bass.
What genres do you teach?
Contemporary, Jazz and Classical.
What is it that you love about teaching music – particularly at Wollongong Conservatorium?
I have a deep respect for the role positive learning environments have for people of all ages. I love to listen and learn about music and to help others to do the same. Learning and playing music helps us develop skills that are so helpful in our daily lives.
Please share a particular career highlight and why it’s special to you.
Over a long career I have had many highlights. Standing on the stage of the Opera House Concert hall is always special, touring major musical productions such as the original Australian and Japanese production of “We Will Rock You”, playing locally with some of dearest friends (that also happen to be amongst Australia’s finest musicians), every moment I get to play music at the highest level is a richly rewarding experience.
What’s one piece of music that you’d recommend people listen to?
A great version of a Jaco Pastorius classic as performed by one of the most influential amongst current bass players, Michael League.
