What do you teach at the Con?
I am the director of The ConChords – WollCon’s Community Choir.
What genres do you teach?
SAB Choral music, pop, jazz, world music, folk etc.
What is it that you love about teaching music – particularly at Wollongong Conservatorium?
I love sharing what I know, and continuing to learn from others. I love making music with other people – whether it’s in a choir or instrumental ensemble, with children or adults. It fills me with energy and joy.
Please share a particular career highlight and why it’s special to you.
In 2024 I had the opportunity to conduct a 700+ voice choir in the Sydney Opera House (which I had done previously) but this time I was also conducting a Symphony Orchestra (at the same time!) It was an absolute thrill and career highlight for me!
What’s one piece of music that you’d recommend people listen to?
This is really tough as I love so much music from so many genres, but vocal music, particularly choral music is probably dearest to me. I love this vocal arrangement of Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei and would want it performed at my funeral!!
