Violin

What do you teach at the Con?

Violin.

What genres do you teach?

Any genre that my students are interested in, however my main area is Art Music.

What is it that you love about teaching music – particularly at Wollongong Conservatorium?

I love teaching as it is a way for me to work with young people to develop their love for music and to tap into their interests to create a personalised learning experience. There are a lot of opportunities for young people at the Wollongong Con and an opportunity to engage the community. I feel that the Con is an amazing place to develop well rounded young musicians, not to mention teaching in a supportive teaching environment.

Please share a particular career highlight and why it’s special to you.

I am a high school music teacher at Campbelltown Performing Arts High School where I teach instrumental music and senior music. I am the Artistic Director of The Illawarra based Steel City Strings where we promote Australian music and offer opportunities for young people to compose and perform.

What’s one piece of music that you’d recommend people listen to?

Vivaldi Four Seasons – Nigel Kennedy OR Vivaldi Recomposed – Max Richter.
