Classical and popular.
What is it that you love about teaching music – particularly at Wollongong Conservatorium?
I love helping students achieve their goals, whatever these goals may be, and fostering a life-long appreciation and love of music. I enjoy working at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music because of its diversity of programs and the quality of its music instruction.
Please share a particular career highlight and why it’s special to you.
Over the years I’ve taught a number of young musicians who’ve had a fear of performing. In one particular case, I had a student who refused for several years to participate in a performance. Assisting this student in overcoming this fear has, and remains a highlight of my teaching career.
What’s one piece of music that you’d recommend people listen to?
When I need a pick me up, I listen to the first movement of Prokofiev’s First Piano Concerto in D flat Major. My favourite recording of this work is by Andrei Gavrilov (1978 EMI Classics).
