These school holidays, the Wollongong Conservatorium was alive with the sound of creativity as students partook in our two-day Ukulele Building Workshop. Over the two days, students not only learnt how to play the ukulele but also had the opportunity to first build and design their own from scratch!
The workshop began with a full house on Day 1 where workshop participants arrived excited and ready to build and create. Each student carefully assembled and decorated their instrument, transforming bits of wood into plain ukuleles then into unique works of art!
On day 2, the students returned to learn their first chords and songs on the ukuleles they had built themselves.
The workshop was made possible by our by our in schools team Louise Luke, David Rooney, Jenn Cook and Mark Holder-Keeping, who guided the group through building, decorating, and learning to play their instruments over the course of the two-days.
Workshops like these are at the heart of WollCons commitment to fostering a love of music in young people. We love creating school holiday programs that inspire young musicians and give them a chance to explore music in ways that spark creativity, excitement and a true sense of accomplishment!
A big thank you to all of the students and families that took part in this workshop, we can’t wait to welcome you back for more creative holiday music experiences in the future!
