Young musicians (14-21 years) interested in joining the BlueScope Youth Orchestra are now invited to audition for WollCon’s premier orchestra for 2024.
We are particularly encouraging applications from woodwind players (Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon and French Horn) to further strengthen the orchestra.
Being in the BSYO is a wonderful opportunity for young musicians to ‘find their tribe’ and be among peers with the same love and appreciation of music. Members will have training from professionals including experienced WollCon teachers and from visiting artists such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows.
Being part of the BSYO is distinct from just being in a school orchestra in terms of the very high standard of music education on offer as well as performance and touring opportunities.
After a celebration of WollCon’s 50th birthday throughout 2022 (with concerts at the Town Hall and at WollCon), this year saw BSYO tour New Zealand, perform at the Bali Arts Festival for official concerts and with the Voice of Bali Choir, at local concerts in Gerringong and Dapto, and perform in Wollongong for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal fundraiser.
