On Saturday 14th May, the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music’s BlueScope Youth Orchestra will join forces with the Salvation Army Brass Band to present a community concert to celebrate and raise money for the 2022 Red Shield Appeal.
The concert will also be an opportunity to showcase the work of local programs supported by the Red Shield Appeal fundraiser, such as The First Floor Program a holistic, community-based drug and alcohol service supporting families & individuals in their recovery from substance use, mental health issues, grief, and loss, as well as the Carinya Women and Children Service which provides crisis accommodation for women and children of the Illawarra.
Both the Orchestra and Band will present a variety of music that will appeal to all ages. The Brass Band will present a mix of traditional marches, big band, and reflective pieces, whilst the Orchestra will perform some well-known themes from famous movies such as Harry Potter, James Bond, Last of the Mohicans, Pink Panther, Beauty and the Beast, La La Land, Star Wars and other famous John Williams films.
WollCon’s CEO David Francis said, “The BlueScope WIN Community Foundation is a proud long term supporter of both the Red Shield Appeal and the Wollongong Conservatorium’s BlueScope Youth Orchestra, so this concert is a true celebration of how the business and general community can come together to support such a worthy cause, as well as providing the community with a quality musical experience”.
The concert begins at 6.30pm at the Wollongong Salvation Army, 11-13 Burelli St Wollongong, with tickets ($5-$15) available at the door.
The BlueScope Youth Orchestra is supported by the BlueScope Win Community Partnership Fund.
